Welcome to this module on the Bussmann Fuses Made Simple Program.

Before we get started let's look at what we'll be covering in this module:

By the end of this module you will be able to; understand the new look of the Bussmann UL low  voltage branch circuit  fuse portfolio, understand how three levels of overcurrent protection simplify selection, identify the benefits of the four fuse families, understand the applicable market and find additional application and product information.

In the world of overcurrent protection there are many choices when it comes to determining which fuse to select.  Oftentimes, fuse benefits seem confusing, making it hard to understand the best fuse for a specific application. Once the proper fuse protection is selected and installed, correct fuse replacement becomes important. When using a variety of fuses across multiple applications, fuse cribs can become overwhelming with different part numbers, colors and multiple choices to select from when it's time to replace a fuse. It's important that the information on the label is easy to read, insuring the right fuse replacement is selected and the level of protection isn't compromised.

The new Bussmann Fuses Made Simple Program is the easiest and fastest way to select and specify the correct fuse. With easy to understand family benefits, a unique color assigned to each fuse family, three distinct levels of protection and easy to read consistent labels.  Complicated fuse protection is now simpler.

Here's a look at how Fuses Made Simple works to your advantage.

Three tiers of protection make it easy to understand the added benefits of enhanced levels of protection and simplify fuse selection based on the application. The entire Bussmann UL low voltage fuse portfolio is now grouped into four unique fuse families.  Each family is categorized by identifying fuse performance and protection benefits, getting users to the right fuse faster. A consistent color is visible across each family. This helps speed up fuse identification and replacement. Now instead of searching the entire fuse crib when looking for a replacement, narrow the search to just the specific color.

You'll find a clear and consistent look across every fuse label. You can quickly find the most critical information on the fuse label including the part number, amp rating, voltage rating and agency listings.  Every fuse in the Fuse Made Simple Program now has consistent labeling.  That eliminates the need to search for important information in different places.

Let's start by learning about the three tiers of protection.

To help users speed-up fuse specification and selection, the Fuses Made Simple Program offers three tiers of protection based on desired performance.  These tiers are Ultimate, Advanced and Basic Protection.

1.  Ultimate Protection

It is the best worry-free protection for virtually any application. Unique dual element construction delivers a powerful combination of all performance options in one fuse - fast short-circuit protection, current limitation and time-delay performance with up to 300kA interrupting rating.

2.  Advanced Protection

This is application-specific protection for sensitive devices and critical components, or motors and transformers.  You can choose between fast short-circuit, current limiting performance or energy-efficient, current limiting, time-delay performance based on the application. They feature 200kA interrupting rating.

The needs of your application will determine what advanced protection to choose.  Time-delay performance will allow a small amount of current in rush for the startup of inductive loads such as motors and transformers. Fast short-circuit protection is ideal for protection of sensitive devices and critical components, or any application you what to strictly limit the amount of current let-through.

3.  Basic protection

This is the basic single element protection for service, feeder and branch circuit applications. They feature up to 100kA interrupting rating.

 

Now let's get to know the four families that are part of the Fuses Made Simple Program.

1.  Low-Peak

Low peak fuses combine fast short-circuit protection with dual element, time-delay performance and deliver 50 percent more protection than any other UL or CSA Listed fuse at 300kA interrupting ratings.  The label color associated with this family is yellow.

2.  Fusetron

Fusetron fuses are 23 percent more energy efficient and have a dual element feature providing the best time-delay performance. The label color associated with this family is green

3.  Limitron

Limitron fuses provide fast short-circuit protection and ten times better current limitation than basic circuit breakers or fuses. The label color associated with this family is black.

4.  General Purpose

General Purpose fuses provide basic overcurrent protection,  The label color associated with this family is gray.

 

Now let's go through each fuse family in more depth, starting with Low Peak.

Low-Peak fuses deliver 50 percent more protection than any other listed fuses.  Low Peak fuses are the industry's only UL and CSA listed fuses with a 300kA interrupting rating, providing 50 percent more protection than any other listed fuse.  The high 300kA SCCR provides best-in-class arc flash protection reducing hazard to personnel.  These fuses provide ultimate protection for virtually any application.  Low Peak fuses combine the key protection and performance benefits of Limitron and Fusetron uses.  Their unique dual element construction combines fast short-circuit protection and time-delay performance in one fuse. This allows Low Peak fuses to provide simple, worry-free installation in virtually any application

Low Peak fuses make selective coordination easy. Consistent 2:1 coordination ratios for all Low Peak fuses make selective coordination easy. They reduce inventory and have worry-free replacement.

Low Peak fuses allow you to simplify fuse inventory by consolidating an extensive stock of fuses and upgrading to ultimate protection for your equipment.

Low Peak fuses can replace up to 33 percent of your inventory saving time and money associated with ordering and stocking fuses.  Knowing that Low Peak fuses can be used in virtually any application ensuring the selection of the right fuse for the application.

Here are the different fuse classes and interrupting rating;  Low peak fuses include class  CC, J, RK1, and L with an interrupting rating up to 300kA.

 

Next is the Fusetron family and benefits.

These fuses are energy efficient.  Fusetron fuses are on average 23 percent more energy efficient than the next leading brand, saving users money.  Another feature of Fusetron is that fuses provide best time-delay performance. The dual element feature of Fusetron provides the best time-delay performance, allowing for closer sizing to load that permits use of smaller and less costly components and switches. These fuses are ideal for motors and transformers.

The time-delay performance mean these fuses will allow an inrush of current to get through without opening. This feature makes Fusetron ideal for motors, transformers or other similar applications by delivering the right amount of protection for the application.

Here are the fuse classes and interrupting rating; Fusetron fuses are class RK5 and have a 200kA interrupting rating.

 

Now let's move to the Limitron family.

These fuses provide ten times faster current limitation.  Limitron fuses provide fast acting protection that is on average ten times faster than basic circuit breakers or fuses.

Limitron fuses also provide enhanced equipment protection. The fast current limitation feature helps to prevent equipment damage caused by short-circuit events, making Limitron fuses ideal for sensitive devices and critical components.

If you want to limit the amount of short-circuit current delivered to your device, Limitron fuses react quickly, ensuring enhanced equipment protection.

Here are the fuse classes and interrupting rating; Limitron fuses include class CC, J, RK1, L and T, all with 200kA interrupting rating.

 

Finally let's review the General Purpose family.

Fuses of this family meet basic agency requirements. General Purpose fuses meet basic and NEC, CEC, CSA and UL requirements for service, feeder and branch ciruit protection.

These fuses are a cost-effective overcurrent solution. Providing basic overcurrent protection makes General Purpose fuses an economical overcurrent solution when compared to basic circuit breakers.

Here are the fuse classes and interrupting rating; General Purpose fuses include class H, K and G with an interrupting rating up to 100kA.

 

The Fuses Made Simple Program also introduces a clear and consistent look to the new fuse labels making it easy for users to find the information they need.

Critical fuse information is presented in an easy to read format on labels across the entire Fuses Made Simple portfolio.  Regardless of the family, you will now be able to easily identify the part number, voltage rating, amp rating and agency listings among many other important details.

Easy to find part numbers

To ensure you can easily find the part number when you need to replace large body size bolt-on fuses, the new label design has a part number located in multiple places. With this updated look, you can easily find the important information regardless of the angle in which the fuse is installed.

These advantages, in addition to the color-coding by family provide users with benefits that will help speed fuse identification and replacement, to save both time and money.

 

Low voltage fuses are ideal for most industrial and commercial applications. The type of fuse selected will depend on the needs of your equipment.
